Maria A. Sciara, was an incredible woman who lived an amazing life. Besides being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was an extremely talented and accomplished artist. But when she passed, one dream remained unfulfilled. It had always been her desire to attend college and become a teacher. Unfortunately, a series of family events continually thwarted this dream.
 
Maria lost her battle with metastatic brain
cancer on January 14th 2008. In addition, she had bravely fought thyroid, colon, and lung cancer.
 
In tribute to their mother’s legacy and dream, Maria’s daughters, Ginny Salerno (LI2DAY Founder & Director) and Stephanie Sciara-Glaser (LI2DAY Vice President) have established The Maria A. Sciara Scholarship Fund with the help of the LI2Day Walk Organization.

The Maria A. Sciara Scholarship Fund is dedicated to helping students who aspire to be teachers and might be denied the dream of a college education because of the devastating effect a parent or gaurdian's cancer has on a family.
