Fight Like a Girl has raised over $170,000 for LI2DAY

Seven years ago, Christine Romano and Jennifer Hunt, both breast cancer survivors started this team with just the two of them.  It has now grown to a small army!

Everyone on the team has made an amazing effort to raise awareness and funds to support LI2DAY’s initiative.  The team has raised over $170,000!

So how do they do it?

Jennifer said, “Everyone on the team is encouraged to raise their minimum $500 LI2DAY commitment and then the team works together on fundraisers in an effort to raise as much as they can. We have team members who are great at soliciting donations, in-kind donations for our raffle baskets while others are great at helping to organize many of our team fundraising initiatives.”

Each year the team packs out the main ballroom at the East Wind of Shoreham-Wading River where they raise the bulk of their fundraising dollars.

Other fundraising initiatives throughout the year include the selling of commemorative Fight Like a Girl t-shirts.  Last year the team collected over 7,000 pounds of clothing to raise additional funds!

Jennifer said, “We have become known in the Shoreham Wading River community and so many are behind our fundraising initiative because LI2DAY is a local organization that helps so many Long Islanders battling cancer.”

When you are a part of a team it is a shared responsibility to meet the fundraising commitment.  It may seem less intimidating for those worried about fundraising on their own.  But, as you can see, individually or together with teammates you can raise more than the minimum and every dollar helps.
