|The Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support program was established in 1980. At this time, people did not speak openly about breast cancer and women who felt isolated with their diagnosis found comfort in sharing their fears and questions with others. Today, the Breast Cancer Hotline is staffed by over 100 specially trained, professionally supervised volunteers. For over 36 years, we have been able to reach thousands of women through professional counseling, bilingual social work services, patient navigation, support groups, educational programs and health screenings.
One of our programs, Sisters United in Health is a not-for-profit collaboration of 15 organizations on Long Island. Sisters conducts outreach initiatives, bilingual breast health workshops and offers health screenings to women in underserved communities in Nassau and Suffolk.
The Adelphi Breast Cancer Program has been a beneficiary since the first LI2DAY walk in 2004. Since then, LI2DAY has donated $388,250 to our program. The funds raised by LI2DAY are used to support the efforts of Sisters United in Health. Breast health awareness and early detection significantly reduces health care disparities and improves health outcomes of underserved populations. LI2DAY is a strong supporter of this critical work.
Throughout the year, the women on our LI2DAY team provide updates on their training. We love hearing their progress and how the walk becomes an integral part of their lives. Knowing how hard our team trains makes it even more inspiring when we see them on walk day. Members are always beaming with pride and have a spring in their step, even at mile 12!
Registration is now open for the LI2DAY Walk which will be held on June 10, 2017. Go to www.li2daywalk.org to register, choose Team Adelphi or email Michelle at email@example.com to join us!
